Abstract
D III NURSING STUDY PROGRAM FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES BAKTI TUNAS HUSADA UNIVERSITY Scientific Paper, June 2025 Gian Herdian Application of Early Mobilization in Enhancing Wound Healing Among Post-Appendectomy Patients in Melati 4 Room, dr. Soekardjo General Hospital, Tasikmalaya xiii + 70 pages + 14 Appendices ABSTRACT Appendicitis is a common surgical emergency that requires immediate intervention in the form of an appendectomy. This procedure is effective in preventing complications such as perforation and peritonitis; however, many patients experience delayed recovery due to postoperative pain and fear of movement. Early mobilization is a non-pharmacological intervention proven to accelerate wound healing by improving blood circulation and preventing complications. This study aims to explore the implementation of early mobilization on wound healing in post-appendectomy patients in Melati 4 Ward of dr. Soekardjo Regional Hospital, Tasikmalaya. The objective is to describe patients’ responses before and after early mobilization and its effect on postoperative wound healing. This study used a case study design, with subjects selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were collected through wound observation over three sessions. Wound evaluation was conducted using the REEDA scale (Redness, Edema, Ecchymosis, Discharge, Approximation). The results showed that both patients experienced good wound healing without signs of infection or complications, as indicated by a REEDA score of 0 on all indicators. These findings indicate that early mobilization significantly contributes to accelerating the wound healing process. This is consistent with existing theories and previous studies which highlight that early mobilization promotes tissue regeneration and reduces the risk of postoperative complications. Therefore, healthcare providers must implement early mobilization and provide adequate patient education to ensure optimal recovery.
