Abstract
Abstract Liver damage due to high doses of paracetamol can increase SGOT and SGPT levels as indicators of impaired liver function. Acalypha siamensis tea leaves are known to contain flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and terpenoids that have the potential as antioxidants and hepatoprotective. This study aims to determine the hepatoprotective effectiveness of ethanol extract of tea leaves on male white rats induced by paracetamol and determine the optimal dose. The study was conducted experimentally in vivo using 30 male white rats divided into five groups, namely negative control, positive control, doses of 100 mg/200 g BW, 200 mg/200 g BW, and 400 mg/200 g BW. All groups were induced by paracetamol, then SGOT and SGPT levels were measured after treatment. Data were analyzed using ANOVA test via SPSS 32. The results showed that ethanol extract of tea leaves was able to provide effectiveness in SGOT and SGPT levels in all treatment groups compared to negative controls. The dose of 100 mg/200 g BW is the most optimal dose because it provides significant liver enzyme effectiveness at a lower dose than other doses. Keywords: hepatoprotective, ethanolic extract of Acalypha siamensis, paracetamol, SGOT, SGPT.
