Abstract
PROGRAM STUDI S1 FARMASI FAKULTAS FARMASI UNIVERSITAS BAKTI TUNAS HUSADA Artikel, September 2026 Rizki Ahmad Fauzi Abstrak Limbah alat kaca laboratorium merupakan salah satu limbah anorganik yang mengandung silika (SiO₂) dalam jumlah tinggi sehingga berpotensi dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan baku pembuatan silika gel. Penelitian ini bertujuan mensintesis silika gel termodifikasi 2-merkaptobenzotiazol (MBT) menggunakan metode sol-gel serta mengevaluasi karakteristik fisikokimia dan kemampuan adsorpsinya terhadap ion logam Cu (II). Karakterisasi dilakukan menggunakan X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), dan X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), sedangkan kemampuan adsorpsi dianalisis menggunakan Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa limbah alat kaca laboratorium mengandung SiO₂ sebesar 98,64% dan berhasil disintesis menjadi silika gel termodifikasi MBT. Hasil FTIR menunjukkan munculnya gugus fungsi khas MBT, sedangkan XRD mengonfirmasi bahwa silika tetap memiliki struktur amorf setelah proses modifikasi. Silika MBT memiliki kadar abu 8,67%, kadar air 3,24%, dan mampu mengadsorpsi ion Cu (II) dengan efisiensi sebesar 99,16%. Dengan demikian, silika gel termodifikasi MBT berpotensi dikembangkan sebagai adsorben ramah lingkungan untuk menurunkan kadar ion logam. Kata kunci: limbah alat kaca labolatorium, silika gel, metode sol gel, 2-mercaptobenzothiazole, Cu (II),Absorpsi Abstarct Laboratory glassware waste is one of the inorganic wastes containing high amounts of silica (SiO₂) so it has the potential to be used as a raw material for making silica gel. This study aims to synthesize 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) modified silica gel using the sol-gel method and evaluate its physicochemical characteristics and adsorption capacity towards Cu (II) metal ions. Characterization was carried out using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), while the adsorption capacity was analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). The results showed that laboratory glassware waste contained 98.64% SiO₂ and was successfully synthesized into MBT modified silica gel. FTIR results showed the emergence of typical MBT functional groups, while XRD confirmed that the silica remained amorphous after the modification process. MBT silica has an ash content of 8.67% and a moisture content of 3.24%, and is capable of adsorbing Cu (II) ions with an efficiency of 99.16%. Therefore, MBT-modified silica gel has the potential to be developed as an environmentally friendly adsorbent to reduce metal ion levels.
