Abstract

Abstract Pityrosporum ovale is a unicellular yeast belonging to the genus Malassezia and is recognized as one of the microorganisms associated with the development of pityriasis (dandruff). Ganoderma lucidum contains various bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, triterpenoids, alkaloids, saponins, and tannins, which have been reported to possess antifungal properties. This study aimed to evaluate the inhibitory activity of 70% ethanol extract of Ganoderma lucidum against the growth of Pityrosporum ovale at concentrations ranging from 10% to 100%. This experimental study employed the Kirby–Bauer disk diffusion method. The results showed that the 70% ethanol extract of Ganoderma lucidum produced inhibition zones ranging from 6.10 mm to 7.57 mm. The largest inhibition zone was observed at the 100% concentration, measuring 7.57 mm, which was categorized as moderate antifungal activity. Nystatin was used as the positive control and produced a moderate inhibition zone with a diameter of 10.1 mm, while sterile distilled water served as the negative control and showed no inhibitory effect. Keywords: Ganoderma lucidum fungus, Pityrosporum ovale, Antifungal.
