Abstract

Kata kunci: Ko-Kristal, Meloksikam, Asam Benzoat Abstract The development of drug formulations in the pharmaceutical industry continues in order to facilitate the use of medicines and improve product quality, including the solubility and efficacy of drugs within the body. The low solubility of meloxicam makes the dissolution process a rate-limiting step in drug absorption, thereby reducing its bioavailability. Efforts to optimise the performance of drugs with solubility constraints, such as meloxicam, are largely directed towards the development of co-crystallisation techniques using appropriate co-former molecules. This research is expected to produce a more optimal solid system of meloxicam through a co-crystallisation approach, as well as to contribute to the development of drug formulations with low solubility in order to improve their quality and therapeutic efficacy. Research Methods used included the preparation of materials, the formation of meloxicam benzoic acid co-crystals, characterisation of the co-crystals using FTIR, DSC and XRD, and evaluation of co-crystall of meloksikam, comprising solubility tests and dissolution tests. Research Results: Analysis using FTIR, DSC and PXRD revealed changes in physicochemical characteristics compared to pure meloxicam, indicating intermolecular interactions and the formation of a new crystalline structure between meloxicam and benzoic acid. This co-crystal formation process has also successfully improved the physicochemical properties of meloxicam, as evidenced by the increased solubility and dissolution rate compared with the pure form of meloxicam. Keywords: Co-crystal, Meloxicam, Benzoic acid
