Abstract

Abstract This study aimed to formulate a microneedle acne patch using tea leaf extract (Camellia sinensis) that had been dechlorophyllized using n-hexane as a solvent. The extract was tested for its antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes and incorporated into a microneedle formulation. The results showed that the decolorized green tea extract at a concentration of 9.5% produced an inhibition zone of 12.76 ± 0.84 mm, which falls into the strong category. After being formulated into a microneedle patch, the antibacterial activity remained high, with an inhibition zone of 12.22 ± 0.21 mm. Physical characterization tests showed that the microneedles had intact structure, uniform size, homogeneous color, and good skin penetration ability. This formulation meets physical quality requirements and demonstrates potential as an effective natural-based topical acne therapy. Keywords: Microneedle, tea leaf extract, dechlorophyllized, antibacterial, Propionibacterium acnes, acne
