Abstract
ABSTRAK Uji Daya Hambat Ekstrak Etanol Daun Sirih Hijau (Piper betle) Terhadap Pertumbuhan Jamur Microsporum canis Secara In Vitro Salwa Patiha Aulia D-III Analis Kesehatan / TLM, Universitas Bakti Tunas Husada Tasikmalaya Abstrak Indonesia sebagai negara beriklim tropis dengan kelembapan tinggi menjadi lingkungan yang ideal bagi pertumbuhan dan penyebaran jamur patogen penyebab infeksi kulit. Dermatofita seperti Trichophyton, Epidermophyton, dan Microsporum diketahui menjadi penyebab utama dermatofitosis, dengan Microsporum canis sebagai salah satu spesies yang sering menginfeksi kulit kepala (tinea capitis). Infeksi ini lebih sering terjadi pada anak-anak, terutama di daerah tropis dengan kondisi sosial ekonomi rendah, dengan gejala klinis berupa pengerasan kulit, pengelupasan, dan eritema. Penggunaan obat tradisional berbasis tanaman telah lama dikenal di Indonesia sebagai alternatif pengobatan, salah satunya adalah daun sirih hijau (Piper betle). Daun sirih mengandung berbagai senyawa bioaktif seperti minyak atsiri, flavonoid, tannin, dan fenol yang berfungsi sebagai antibakteri maupun antifungi. Berbagai penelitian telah membuktikan efektivitas ekstrak daun sirih dalam menghambat pertumbuhan Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, Streptococcus mutans, Candida albicans, dan Pityrosporum ovale. Namun, penelitian mengenai daya hambat ekstrak etanol daun sirih hijau terhadap Microsporum canis masih sangat terbatas. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji potensi ekstrak etanol daun sirih hijau sebagai agen antifungi terhadap Microsporum canis melalui uji in vitro. Hasil penelitian diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi ilmiah terhadap pengembangan terapi alternatif dermatofitosis berbasis bahan alam. Kata Kunci: Dermatofitosis, Microsporum canis, Daun sirih hijau (Piper betle) Abtract Indonesia, a tropical country with high humidity, provides an ideal environment for the growth and spread of pathogenic fungi that cause skin infections. Dermatophytes such as Trichophyton, Epidermophyton, and Microsporum are known to be the main causes of dermatophytosis, with Microsporum canis being one of the species that frequently infects the scalp (tinea capitis). This infection is more common in children, especially in tropical areas with low socioeconomic conditions, with clinical symptoms including hardening of the skin, peeling, and erythema. The use of plant-based traditional medicines has long been known in Indonesia as an alternative treatment, one of which is green betel leaves (Piper betle). Betel leaves contain various bioactive compounds such as essential oils, flavonoids, tannins, and phenols that function as antibacterials and antifungals. Various studies have proven the effectiveness of betel leaf extract in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, Streptococcus mutans, Candida albicans, and Pityrosporum ovale. However, research on the inhibitory effect of green betel leaf ethanol extract on Microsporum canis is still very limited. Based on this, this study aims to assess the potential of ethanol extract of green betel leaves as an antifungal agent against Microsporum canis through in vitro testing. The results are expected to contribute scientifically to the development of alternative therapies for dermatophytosis based on natural ingredients.
