Abstract
ABSTRACT Uric acid is the final product of purine catabolism which is synthesized mainly in the liver and excreted through the urinary tract. Hyperuricemia is an increase in uric acid levels as a result of the metabolism of purines and components of nucleic acids and energy producers in the cell nucleus. Excessive body weight is often associated with an increase in serum uric acid levels and is thought to be one of the risk factors for hyperuricemia. Obesity causes an increase in leptin levels in the body. Leptin which is secreted in adipocyte tissue functions to control appetite, regulate the process of burning the fat burning process in the body. Leptin is secreted in adipocyte tissue and functions to control appetite and regulate the process of burning fat in the body, so that if hunger will reduce the concentration of leptin. Increased leptin levels in people who are overweight can cause leptin resistance. If leptin resistance occurs in the kidneys it can cause diuresis disorders in the form of urine retention. Urine retention is what causes uric acid disruption through urine, so that uric acid levels in the blood increases. This literature review has compiled several results of studies describing uric acid levels in obesity and non-obesity. n the obese group, uric acid levels were higher than the non-obese group, but not always in the non-obese group had normal uric acid levels due to genetic factors that play a role in increasing uric acid levels, lack of physical activity and consuming foods containing high purine. Keywords: Gout, obesity, non obesity.
